Porsche 911 hybrid confirmed for summer 2024: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/n...ed-summer-2024
Re Auto Start/Stop. Personally, I do not want any form of A.S.S. in my manual ICE sports car. I defeat it in the T prior to each start-up. Quote:
Many suspect that 48v in the 992.2 would kill off the manual as the most recent generation of PDK was specifically engineered to add the small electric motor onto the transmission. The manual would be SOL. RIP Edit: AutoCar re the 992.2 - “A 48V integrated starter motor in the dual-clutch automatic gearbox will provide electric boosting properties and power for ancillary components.” Last edited by SCA; 03-13-2024 at 10:10 AM. |

It’s not sticky in the newer cars because of EPA rule changes; when they built your car the ASS couldn’t be used to count for fuel economy measurement. That changed in…2018?
I generally defeat mine in the Porsche too, but honestly there are times in the city where I like it. I appreciate it especially because the engine only dies if you have it in neutral and take your foot off the clutch. Stepping on the clutch fires the engine and it’s generally seamless enough that you’ve got no trouble by the time you slot it into gear and let the clutch back up. The fact that you can control it so precisely makes it way less annoying than the versions I’ve used on most automatics. That said, the X5 absolutely rocks on this front; even when the battery is “dead,” there’s enough residual charge to get the car moving before the engine fires. It’s very smooth and hardly noticeable. |

Pretty sure that on the 718 the setting is sticky under a given driving mode. I don't recall disabling every time.

Yes, Porsche will let you disable ASS in individual (and it’s disabled by default in Sport and Sport plus), but the car always defaults to normal — you have to select a mode other than that every time you drive the car to defeat ASS.
That lets Porsche count the gains from ASS in its (fleet, I think) fuel economy figures. I posted the CFR part somewhere here a while ago. My 2016 M3 lets you kill ASS and leave it disabled on restart without having to switch modes. |

And yes, the 2018 M3 had a hard button (as does the 2021 M5). EDIT: It appears the previous owner must have coded my car to default to have ASS off. Last edited by FC; 03-13-2024 at 09:42 AM. |
