Another thing I’ve noticed on a lot of these ad’s ... they are recent purchases and being resold VERY quickly. I’m not just referencing this car ‘The odometer currently shows just over 29k miles, only about 200 of which have been added by the seller.’ but many others as well. Edit: just looking at the link above “The odometer shows just under 59k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added by the seller.” |

I do, however, think that there's a bit of a bubble forming here, and there are some folks who are looking to flip cars for profit. The E30 M3 thing seems to be semi-stabilized outside of the unicorn barely-used cars that pop up here and there, but now there seems to be a lot of speculation around the late '90s and early '00s. Didn't a 2000 Civic Si go for $22k or so on BaT recently? |

The thing about used cars now is people KNOW that the enthusiast kind of car is where the money is. The rare cars out there that are fun to drive and offer things like a manual and great driving characteristics. You know the ones we all like. These are the ones commanding a primium and making that next used car purchase, that used to be the way to go, not a value at all any more. Shit I’ve been looking at 2013 335is’s lately to fit into what I am willing to put out at this time. And NEW LOL!! $80k starting for anything I’d want, well maybe a new M2.
Just a personal rant.

After the Imola discussion, I headed over to M5board to see what e39s were being listed at these days. It looks like the price of all e39 M5s has shifted up ~$5k over the last 6 months. Cars that would struggle to get $15K back in October are listed at $20k now. Clean 100k mile cars that should be in the $18-20 range are all in the $22 - $25k range. Then the really nice 50k - 75k cars are all asking between $35 and $45k... crazy.
It is a great car. I'm really glad I owned it. If i was a collector I'd want to have one in my stable, but I wouldn't want to rely on it or need to use it regularly anymore. Just too much 'old' and too many things to worry about in a family sedan.

Hey Man, I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but a 135 'vert would be a great next car for you and there's no bubble on that one yet
