A used A4 wagon is not out of the question either...

The Macan & F-Pace are earnest competitors. Certainly fit, finish, button-down feel go to Macan, but the F-Pace is kind of fun and more spacious. It feels even more RWD than the Macan and has better weight distribution though generally a freer, looser, perhaps lighter feel. One thing that put me off it was how capable it would be blasting through unplowed lots with 1-2ft of snow. For light 'awd', I'd still consider it.

And if you’re looking at the F Pace, the Velar might also be worth a view.

I do think they’re good looking. But had always heard they were mediocre. I guess everything needs to be on the radar.

I will be busy test driving everything, it seems

I woke up this morning asking myself if I could get by with the upcoming M3 awd sedan...(surely that’s more practical than a two-door soft-top )

Even with the v6, the velar felt underpowered to me - slower than its decent 0-60 time would suggest. Will be great when/if they put the inline 6 in it. Beautiful car though.

Haven't driven the Velar which I agree is beautiful... I've read that it's the softer of the platform twins compared to the F-Pace.

Yep. I think if the x3 40i didn’t feel engaging enough there’s no way you’d be happy with the velar. It’s definitely more luxury oriented
