It was an i3, which I otherwise actually liked.

The experience convinced me that that I simply will not own a vehicle that won’t coast.

Seems like it would be a nightmare to me though, and just mess up the excellent linear throttle response on the car. But maybe not?
Add a 3rd pedal for coasting. Do I have to fix everything?

I don’t see why, in these days where brake by wire is coming back anyway, that they can’t combine regen with the brake pedal?

I was only kidding. I would agree that it should be tied to the brake pedal.

I had it tied to the accelerator in the eGolf and I never warmed up to the implementation of the regen.

An easy (?) fix could be to tie the regen to front radar readings. If you're not closing in on any leading cars when you lift off the gas, then coast. Otherwise, enable regen.

I didn't notice on/off behavior, difficulty to drive smoothly in my hour with the i3, but it was a while ago. Mine did not have the Rex.

I find myself more interested in the Defender and the id3 launches than the Taycan to be honest.

I feel like a paddle on the steering wheel that could be pulled for coasting would work okay.

This seems overcomplicated. The brake pedal is being decoupled from the brakes anyway. Why not combine regen and braking there?

A coasting lever seems like it would get used by almost no one, so why would they bother?

As a way of allowing one foot driving, which I actually like.
