E46 M3 spare

Thanks to Josh for selling me his old spare (it only took me about a year to work up the motivation to drive over to his house).

With some careful adjustment, I've been able to install it in the trunk in a way that costs me next to zero trunk space. I lose only a few inches of height at the back, and that declines to no loss by the end of the compressor/goop well. Luckily, I got all that trunk space freed up so that I'd have enough space for K and I to fit our overnight trip bags in, as you can see in the picture.

The nice thing about this is that it leaves a lot of space in various pockets to cram all kinds of things into:

Under the mat, I've got an E46 jack, a breaker bar, a speeder bar, the stock compressor and goop thing, window cleaner, paper towels, some microfiber cloths, jumper cables, and probably a couple other things I've forgotten. ...and because I've blown up compressors in the past, you can also see an extra compressor as well as a couple quarts of oil, a plug/patch kit and a bottle of quick detailer in the little void behind the amplifier and processor.

I think that it's safe to say that this is a lot better than my previous trip setup, in which I'd bring one of the 18x8 wheels, a racing jack and all the other crap in the above list in a bucket. A lot better.

Wish I could accomplish that in the MC3. Compact spare, tool kit, and air compressor take up most of the trunk (plus windscreen on top of the spare.)

All things are relative. The real problem is that some is never enough. You should see both what I currently have in the E30 swap car and what I'm about to put in it.

But yeah, it's kind of ironic given what my position on subwoofers used to be. :0

I may not have really looked. Just put everything in on top of the grey cover.

I've got mine angled down in there. I had to put a 2" or so block in at the deep end to bring the end of the tire level with the top of the well, or else it would be angled too steeply. As a bonus, this makes room to store crap under the wheel.

Now you've got me curious. Rip back the carpet and take a look!
