We don't have anywhere to put one.

...that said, I wouldn't be entirely unsurprised if my parents decided that K needs a "safe" car for grandbaby. I'm not really clear on what's out there in AWD, manual, small, beyond "very little" though.

New? Not much. Golf R and WRX are the only two that spring to mind, assuming Wrangler and Bronco don't meet the "safe" criteria.

EDIT: Used opens more doors, from goofy things like the Cayenne V6 or GTS and OG X3 to less goofy things like the Golf wagon. But all of those are hens teeth rare and getting harder to find in decent condition.

Safe vs. 1989 325iX is the criteria. But also has to fit in the same parking spot as a 1989 325iX.

Edit: And she didn't like your Golf R when she drove it.

The new Gen8 one sounds a lot better to me, AWD seems more performance oriented. Got to put up with the all digital interior though.

Maybe? But if she didn't like the Mk VII (and I can understand why not), I don't think she's going to like the Mk VIII. Honestly a Mk VI might be a better choice, but those are still trading for silly money used.

I haven't driven a new WRX, so I don't know if those still have the drawbacks they used to have.

An E90 or E46 wagon seems like it might answer the mail and would fit in with Nick's overall fleet zeitgeist.
