1999 MB e320 headlight problems

Despite upgrading to an e61, my dad still kept his 1999 e320 wagon as a beater. It's in need of a state inspection sticker and I just can't get one of the inner goggle headlights to work. I replaced the bulb which did nothing, but the new bulb works fine in other lamp locations. I tried cleaning the contacts with a wire brush with no success. I'm going to get it a "fail" sticker tomorrow and then bring it to a shop I guess unless one of you guys has any other ideas.

I don't suppose you tested it with a voltmeter?

Or the lighing control unit... The box that tells you when a bulb is out... I had a problem on my old Mercedes that was similar.

Granted - a much older car than yours, but... you never know...
