There’s tons of G bodies that are targas and convertibles (sort of worthless) but if you can get an SC or mid 80s 911 hardtop, it’s like owning a unicorn. Even more so for the 964 and 993s. I’m sure qualitatively they drive better, but you do tend to hear less of the intake sounds and the whir of the engine fan.

I just don’t understand the appeal of a hard top Porsche for street use, to be honest. The experience is heightened so much by having the top down.
If you want to go fast at the track, sure. But no one with any sense is tracking 993s anymore. |

I guess I'd describe it as it isn't worth all the compromises of a convertible for the maybe twenty days a year that it's nice enough to have the top down.

If you’re dedicated to the convertible experience, there’s a lot more than 20 days.

Precisely this. The vast majority of time it’s nice enough outside to take the Porsche over one of the other cars, it’s nice enough to put the top down.

I don't agree, maybe if I lived in Colorado or something I would. I'm too bothered by humidity to be comfortable most of the time. Fortunately they sell the car as both a coupe and a convertible.

I never wanted a 911 until I drove a new one in the fall of 2008 when the 997.2 was launching. I drove a PDK cab at Porsche test drive event during the Hilton Head Island Concours D’Elegance. The GF at the time and I got out of the car after a 15-20 minute drive and I seem to recall saying that I had to have one of those, but make mine a coupe and equipped with a manual. Even after a nice drive in the SC low country with the top down I had zero desire to have it as a cab. OT, the coupes tend to retain their value better. These days a 997.2 coupe is typically $10k+ more than a cab. Manual versus manual. Last edited by SCA; 12-23-2022 at 06:34 PM. |

For a 4-5 year old car? Do you think this is because the 992 equivalent is $150-160,000?
