I installed the smarttop module over the weekend. What an awesome improvement. It is a module that piggybacks into the convertible control and allows you to add / customize features like putting your top up/down with the key, one touch top and wind deflector actuation, top control from the keyless entry door handle, etc. Lots of little 'comfort/convenience' factors that add up to a far better useability system. I got mine from a Rennlist member for $300, which made it a relative bargain.

equ/JST you guys might want to see what it can do for your boxsters.

This is correct. Also to his point 7th is so tall, you rarely ever use it except on the highway (at least I haven't used it since I drove the car home from Akron).

Looks like it would only work on equ’s 981. The 986/987 top has a lever that has to be manually released to open / closed to shut the top. The up/down is powered though... But that would be a nice feature on a fully automated top.

So far its been really good advice. Having something that brings joy in this environment has been theraputic to the soul.

Well so much for bullet proof Porsche reliability. After getting it home and joining Rennlist I learned that 991.2s had a rash of leaking waterpumps. I looked under mine and sure enough there was coolant on the muffler (ahh the sweet smell of boiling glycol).

I had that replaced under warranty last month. Yesterday I took it for a drive and had an awesome first 25 miles. I stopped to pick up some groceries for about 10 mins and hopped back in the car to head home. When I left the store, I got literally a quarter mile away when the water temp had climbed to 250 and I got a water temp overheat warning on the dash. I was able to immediately pull into a parking lot, shut the engine down, open the rear cover and run the heater. The oil temp never got above 198 so I'm not too worried about damage (should I be?). The water temp came back to about 200 in a few minutes. The weird thing (besides how quickly the water temp shot up) was the cooling fans above the engine never kicked on. I also didn't hear any radiator fan noise from the front of the car. I looked under the car and everything was dry, so it didn't dump all the coolant somewhere either.

After it cooled, I restarted it, to see if maybe the water pump was stalled and the restart would get it turning again and drove the 1/4 mile back to the grocery store lot. In the 90 seconds it took me to make that drive the water temp went from 192 to 248. Experiment over, I shut it down and called my dealership to arrange a roadside assistance tow.

I should hear later today what's up. I'm assuming it is something related to the water pump fix, but not loving being left on the side of the road. It feels like 2001 e46 aux fans all over again.
