That would be funny because he would be in a bidding war with his own wife.

It was the right car at the wrong time. A year from now I would have gone a bit higher. I'm totally ok not getting it. It was unicorn hunting. We don't need a 5th car right now for sure. Hell I haven't even driven a 911 yet. Even at the price it went to, it was under market value imo.

I am going to give the buyer my contact info... maybe I will be its next owner

Still good to have that experience to have shopped for it and intensely experienced bidding... I did expect it to get into the mid-70's. If you look at bank book values and trade-in, it's right around 70 to 72, a price a dealer would pay.

Even where you know it's for the best, getting all amped up to bid in one of those auctions and coming up short is a real let down. It's one of the reasons that auctions can be such a successful format for sellers, if the crowd is right.

Anyway, glad you're not too bummed about it. Well played, bidding-wise.

I am more bummed this morning than I was last night. Yesterday it was all stress of 'is this the right thing, its definitely not the smart thing, but is it right?' There was also a lot of concern about how I was going to justify it to people that work for me, my ex-wife, family members, etc. That may be ridiculous, but it was all swirling in my head.

If we did win, we were going to cancel our Turo reservation for the 981, and rebook our flight that was planned for Ft Laurderdale to ATL. We would have picked it up Saturday and driven it down to Key Largo. It would have been really nice to be driving around the islands in our own car vs someone else's boxster.

Oh well. It wasn't meant to be.
