Changes the rev limiter behavior and stability control as well. Apparently you can code in the features without having to look at the dash wart .

Aftermarket tunes can do the same stuff, plus more, without having a stupid clock on your dash. Not that I have been thinking about this at all.

On the 997TT Sport Chrono made a huge difference in throttle response - similar to the MCS's sport button. Oh, and on the TT it freed up more torque.

Supposedly the Sport Chrono mapping eliminates throttle lag, without making the car jumpy like the old BMW E46 M3 "Sport mode" button.
All for the low low price of a couple grand and an ugly clock on the dash. The aftermarket companies can do cool things like do the Sport Chrono coding, plus eliminate the stupid "drive-off assistant," a.k.a. a feature designed to help people who don't know how to drive a stick but which in actuality makes me stall the car about once a month, plus tune for a bit more power... for a few hundred bucks. |

Ah, PAG are such gods of marketing. That said, if it is really $1495 installed, that's like the best option money ever spent in porsche-land on any option.

And yes, Porsche does all sorts of things to make you give them extra money. Nature of the beast. |
