If you really wanted to be the practical voice you should probably focus more on opining that he keep the current car and repair things as necessary. Certainly that will be cheaper in the long run. The tax savings alone will cover most future repairs.
Well ok, the next time I make a suggestion, I'll run it by you first

They said the same thing when Obama was about to take office in 2009.

I know this thread is circling the drain, but.

No thanks on the CR-V... too slow, too plastic, too ugh.
No thanks on the Civic - no place for the dog
No thanks on the Aveo - Although, I would take a Cruze before I'd take a Civic based on my rental car experiences.
That seems ridiculously low. What are the specs on your wagon? I've always found selling privately to better financially and psychically. Why wouldn't it be worth $10k to $13k?

Yes, it is ridiculously low. I'd be in the game at $8k, but we'll see what negotiation space exists. I'm more frustrated by the lack of responses at all from the other 3 dealerships.

I've had great luck selling other cars private sale, but this one is high miles, very niche, and at a price point that is very craigslisty. I was hoping to take the easy route.

I think... maybe, possibly.... not 100% what I was hoping for, but close enough? more to come.
