May be time to move on from a MT

I've squeezed every penny I can out of the Audi A5 (and it's 160K+ miles) and I've been looking for a reasonably priced daily that won't bore me to death and has the flexibility of a 4 door. I've tried limiting myself to manual transmissions cars, but that may something I give on. And I decided for a number of reasons not to consider used cars.

I've negotiated what feels like a killer deal on a several 2019 Giulia 2.0s by email with the dealer, and depending on how a test drive goes I'm likely going to pull the trigger.

I assume you've reviewed the Guilia reliability nightmares that most everyone who has owned one has experienced? I'd be very scared to own one of them based on what I've read.

Are you buying? I feel like I hear a few horror stories on reliability online but they are mixed so YMMV. Lease deals seem to be pretty decent though on Leasehackr if you’re open to that.

I gave up on MT's ~4 years ago. One primary reason for doing so led to another excuse, and then another, and so on. Now with so few decent and reasonably affordable sedans with a MT, I've stopped thinking about it almost entirely.

We're on the cusp of electric cars overtaking and killing off ICE'ed ones anyhow. When that happens we'll have, basically, no MT options at all. And not long after that the streets will be ruled by autonomous options, eliminating the need for private ownership. It is what it is.

I like the looks and the idea of the Giulia. I'm curious to know what you think of them after the test drive.

Autonomous vehicles are a lot further off than people think, IMO.

Thin choices for MT these days, and the choices all suck, so it's perfectly understandable.

I hope that you are renting that Giulia. I also hope that you are test driving a B9 A4 to compare.

I'm well aware of the risk of buying this car, and some of this is me being an emotional risk taker. I do think some of the issues were with the first year models and at least for the 2.0L the newer cars don't have the same issues.

I'm always a car buyer, If I buy this one I'll spring for the extended warranty.

Nick, I haven't driven the B9, David loves his but TBH I'm bored with Audi, plain and simple.

Why do I keep thinking I will end of being the guy in Rush's "Red Barchetta" song. Slamming through gears in my old ICE car through the countryside chased by "Gleaming Alloy Air" Cars (Or in the real near world "Tesla's") as I run the deadly race.

Will the new 3er end up being over $50K? I guess I have no idea how much new BMWs are anymore. I remember being shocked at seeing a sticker on a X5 loaner I ended up with being well over $80K
