The front looks odd from some angles. The biggest problem is the "duckbill", and that needs some massaging to get the lines aligned (the line on the front is higher than the sides and is what makes it look odd)...
We'll see how the production version looks in ~18 months.

So Tesla made some announcements on their earnings call today...
They are moving their 500k per year production target up by 2 years -- in 2018 from 2020. They have set July 1, 2017 as the target to have Model ready for production. They are targeting production of 100k Model 3s in 2017. Oh... And a couple manufacturing/production VPs have left or been fired. One is staying on until back filled... Wonder who they'll be able to hire to help one this ramp -- just over a year to get ready...

In one recent article, Musk mentioned that only recently did the plant manage to produce a "perfect" Model X -- one that had no QC issues during the build. (Was that in this article? I didn't RTFA.)
I read the C&D review of this car with some interest. It sounds like a hoot to drive, but those doors...I couldn't live with those. Despite what Tesla says, they don't solve any problems that I have with conventional rear doors, and they preclude a roof rack. Then again, they look cool. And who puts stuff on the roof of a $100k car, anyway? |

Question for ZBB (who is probably the only guy here who is obsessed enough to know)-
I decided to try to log in to MyTesla for the first time since putting down my Model 3 deposit and see that I have a reservation number. Is there any way to tell how far back it is? |

Ooh Ooh Ooh! I know! No. They used to give out numbers that were tied to (prospective) build sequence, but the RN is not. It's just a unique identifier for your reservation. As a general matter, they've said that West Coasters will get first priority, as will Tesla owners. Musk at some point said 93 percent of the reservations are non-Tesla owners, though, so that latter priority isn't going to be very big. You reserved on Day 2, IIRC, and as an East Coast, non-Tesla owner, you'll be fairly far back in the queue...but the production targets they've been quoting have been aggressive, so maybe it won't take as long as you think. |

I don't think so.
Tesla used to give out sequential reservation numbers -- but changed to a semi-random number even before I ordered my Model S. There's at least one thread over at TMC with people trying to decipher the RN#, but no luck so far. When did you make the reservation? I thought you did it online just before the reveal? If so, you're probably someplace around 100k. But your number alone won't determine order, since Tesla is prioritizing for: - Tesla & SpaceX employees -- they will be using them to beta test production vehicles - Tesla owners -- Musk said about 7% of reservations were by owners -- ~28k or so. There is a rumor that owners will be prioritized by VIN also... - Geography -- they will start with CA deliveries and move east from there - Order date/time Even with the Model X, reservation holders had no idea when they would be able to configure (let alone when they'd get delivery). I talked to an X reservation older a couple weeks ago (he took delivery of his S a day or two after me...). He reserved the X in July 2013 (so about 9 months after the reveal...), and will take delivery this June.

I reserved before the reveal, but only about 30 minutes before - when I realized it would let me.
I also speculate that I'm about 90-100K back on the list - which means year 2 of production. I was kind of hoping the number meant something useful. Guess not. |
