Spending $40k for the R is a LOT when you can get the GTI for $20k. The M240 at ~$50k is a lot less of a car than an M2 at ~$60k.

What Nick said. It's a value thing.
And I'm considering a GTI because they're cheap used and if I hate it I won't take a bath on it in a couple years use. The R isn't that interesting to me for what it costs. I'm generally not an AWD fan. I really don't want to spend what an M2 would cost used, but it's worth considering. It strikes me as a lot more than an M235 or 240bfor not much more money. |

But then there's this for $30K: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1604865 2015 M235i 6MT with LSD, Low miles, Under warranty - PRICE DROP! BIMMERPOST / Classifieds Asking Price: USD 30,000.00 Item Interest I'm planning to move to two wheels (can't afford insurance for both) and my girlfriend already has a car so don't need another. The car was first purchased in September 2016. I bought it CPO from a dealer in March 2018. So it's still under warranty. The car is an Alpine white BMW M235i, Rear wheel drive, 6-speed manual transmission. 24k miles and adding. One of the few with the M performance LSD and M performance exhaust that you will find for sale with such low miles. The interior is black. It has the technology package, Driver Assist package, Harmon Kardon speaker upgrade and heated seats. So almost fully loaded (See specs photo below). Also includes Carbon fiber mirror caps and front spitters (Has scratches on both sides - but easy and cheap to replace - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1). In amazing condition. Have had no problems with it. No mods. Added pictures - some from when I bought it and some from last week. You can see that the condition is very similar to when I bought it. KBB value is 30k-33k and that doesn't include the LSD option so it's priced very well in my opinion. Let me know if you want any other details. Last edited by wdc330i; 07-17-2019 at 01:03 PM. |

That M2 has had an accident and a bunch of owners, so I deleted it. |

The problem that I have with the N55 is twofold: 1) Uncanny valley lag. It has too much lag to ignore, but not enough that you can drive around it. This is made WAY worse with a chip. 2) The way that it dies up high. There's also the N55 unreliability issue. The N54 has annoying reliability issues, but it's the N55 that seems to have its problems inside the engine. (Yes, I am aware of the irony of this coming from an S65 owner, but the difference is that I actually like the S65.) I'm certainly curious about the S55. From everything that I hear, it solves the "dies up top" issue. Although not the "it doesn't sound like a V8 turning more than 8,000 RPMs" issue.
