I don't know what you are so worried about, lemming. I am not worried at all about the V this winter. In fact, when the tires go bad in another day or two, I will put more high performance tires on it. No wimpy snow tires for me!!

the V is such a tank it will not brake well and it sure as hell probably will take some doing to get moving from a standstill. i naively hope snow tires help, but i doubt it.
The only issues I had were on hills because of moron FWD drivers. Steep hills on ice sheets meant DSC off with a bit of sideways action, but it wasn't really a big deal. The wagon was absolutely easier to drive, but the M3 was quite adequate.

Thanks guys. I'll go with the narrow DS-2's.

Of course I care about handling, but my point is that on nice dry days, I'll still exercise the 330i on performance winter tires. That car does NOT like to sit for more than a couple of days once the temperature drops to below ~50F.

In the end the Saabaru is a pretty light car and has decent braking performance. Though about equal to the 190E in braking, it doesn't feel as good - mushy pedal, etc.

but the 92x will be unstoppable no matter how much snow is on the roads.

I've done an indicated 105 on my squishy snow tires. They feel just fine.

Sturdiest and / or cheapest.

I found a set of factory Porsche 17" takeoffs for cheaper than Tire Rack's generic alloys. Seems to me finding a set of stock WRX wheels shouldn't be too hard...

Good point. But I am looking for 15" wheels, and the two choices above are only $65 a piece and tirerack will mount and balance them for me for free.

So, assuming the cheapest mounting/balancing I can find is ~$15, I'd need to find a nice used set of 4 wheels for under $200 (including shipping) and still deal with the hassle of them being used, ebay, dealing with a stranger that could be lying, etc.

It is not worth saving a few bucks (even if it possible), IMO.

Weight is not important. They are both the same $$$. Just looking for opinions and threw the weight in there for kicks.

I'm leaning towards the heavier ones just because of the style.
