There is a coolant hose that should be removed to gain access to the pump. Most DIYers work around it. Apparently the dealer just goes by the book.

I think the fuel pump had been failing for a while. The car feels like it has another 20 horsepower from 6k to redline since getting it back. I am not complaining.
