We got a very fair price on the X5 and the trade in # I needed to get out of the wagon. The X5 seems nice. Drives well, comfortable, very spacious. We looked at the other options, but the X1 was just too small for the dog in the trunk and the X3 was neither small enough to be tossable or large enough to be utilitarian for our use. The e70s are at the perfect point in the depreciation curve. They had so many more features and were less money than comparable X1, X3s and 3 wagons.

Our new one is really nicely optioned. It has comfort access, nav, heads up display, rear heated seats, heated wheel, sport seats, side view and rear view cams, bluetooth audio, and so on. Oddly, it does have the sport seats, but no other part of the Sport Activity line. They do have thigh support, lumbar support but no adjustable side bolsters.

We got it from Park Avenue Saab/Lotus just on the Jersey side of NY. It has about 6 months of BMW new car warranty left, and we'll look into an aftermarket one to see if it makes sense before then.

The drive home was so nice not worrying about a break down.

Edit: After 24 hrs with it. I like it, but it doesn't drive as well as the e61. The weight is noticeable. It is a stiffer with no discernable improvement in handling. It doesn't fit in our garage unless we fold the mirrors.

On the plus side, the kids love it. They are so comfortable in the back I'd even consider taking a couple of adults to dinner in there. The options are awesome. It is a million times more pleasant than the old MDXs were in terms of not being stupid. It will be exactly what we need for the next few years and we'll be happy with it.

I really wish U.S. citizens would embrace euro wagons. A 335 wagon would be so perfect. Another generration 5 wagon would be great too. I think we got the best available option, I just wish more options existed. Once college costs stop looming over our head, I fully see an E63 wagon in our future.

The X5 does handle with more agility when equipped with DHP. We also had an E61 (at the same time as E70) and I preferred the handling of the X5 with sport suspension and DHP.

But trying to find a DHP-equipped used X5, is like hunting for the proverbial unicorn. You have the 135 when you want something tossable.

Congrats! The back seat in the e70 is almost comically large. The rear doors are enormous.

The heated rear seats are really nice to have, too.
