The gauge the the R is almost a full circle from full to empty (unlike the typical pie wedge that spans that range). And it doesn't seem to sit on full for very long at all. So you notice some gauge movement on virtually EVERY drive. It makes you feel like the thing is drinking gas like an SUV. This is sort of the opposite on the psychology angle. It seems worse than it is on mileage (and it's not that good to start).

I did put a couple gallons in it last night. Dropping it off on my way back home this afternoon - and I don't plan on stopping for gas again in the next ~45 miles...

Actually, the problem I have with that gauge is that it's too damn small. But, yes, it does move a lot, and the gas mileage in that car is not particularly good.

How does yours do compared to the A4, BTW?

I'll check OBCs and get back to you. My sense is that the R does marginally worse than the A4. Of course, driving style *might* also be a factor. It's tough to not flog the R with some regularity.

I don't track it carefully, but my sense is that ours is marginally better than the 535; both struggle to average 20 mpg in the kind of brutal stop-and-start driving that we do.

The Porsche is even worse, but then again 80 percent of the time I'm driving it the top is down.

Still a lot better than the 12-15 the M3 would get.

Most of my mileage is at 80+ mph on the ICC, including flogging it on ramps.

oh, one other thing - is this the gas mileage thread too? Gm has had gas gauges that don't move for a long time for decades. They did studies that showed buyers thought this meant better gas mileage. Other brands copied them. MW gas gauges seem to move accurately. Yay.
