ZR-1 meets the ring. 7min26sec is the result.

not bad for a rear wheel drive non-turbo car, eh?

you let me get away with "non-turbo"?
it makes me laugh that the corvette chassis, once given proper tires, and these aren't even the cheater PS Cup tires, these are just PS2 tires, can perform right up there with the best of them. it will never be the ultimate driver's car, but if you think about GM's history of always nearly cutting the corvette, this is actually meaningful.

The latest C&D slammed the Z06 pretty badly as too soft. I was surprised by the criticism but then I suspected all these things from prior reviews. Interesting how competition can change the perception of a car.

no steering feel, wallowy suspension, abrupt behavior at the limit without any real 'fee' that the rear is really stepping out --you have to learn the limit and know it's coming. i'd take the C6Z51 LS3 ahead of the Z06 if i were to do it again. the ZR-1 is totally different beastie, though.

The 2008 steering is supposed to be dramatically better than the older ones - I believe - for all corvettes.
That's a very impressive time. The n-time is not what I base my purchase decision on, if anything a shorter, tighter track replicates fun daily a bit better. Still, it is supremely impressive and I'd surely take one over the skyline. |

it's kudos to the GM HiPo team, though. 10 years ago, GM never did this sort of world class benchmarking is really the point. now we can all yawn, but it's made their focused products competitive.

The steering on the only 2008 Corvette (Z51) I've driven left a lot to be desired.
But it wouldn't stop me from buying one. The car is still awesome. I just wish the Z51 package were a bit more real. The car is still pretty cushy. |
