Curious demographics on Porsche owners
From a post at another site.
"According to Business Week in 2001 ... In the U.S. the typical Porsche 911 buyer is 46 to 65, average age 52. Household income: $310,000. The Boxster buyer is 36 to 55, with an average age of 47 [and] an average income of $243,000." Now, the 911 stats I can understand. 310K is a lot of $$$ but it is (typically) a $75K+ car and it takes a lot of disposable income to shell out that kind of dough on a car. OTOH, a Boxster can be had for 50K. Still a LOT of money, but I'd think it would be an exponential function of car price vs. income. Young high-income earners may spring for a 45K Boxster, but almost none will go for a 80K Carrera. Basically, given the 911 average is 310K, I would have thought the Boxster average would be 180-200K. Though the fact that the Boxster is a roadster may mean more of their owners have it as a 3rd+ car, and consequently have that much more money to be able to afford 50K on a car that gets rarely used. : Enough babbling. |
