I've read enough. And the closer we get to electrification, the more spooked I am about the future of manuals at Porsche.

I'm hoping to drive them back to back tomorrow. and then kind of figure out which one has better resale (because it's me) and then how different is the GT4 suspension setup from the GTS setup.
I have no doubt that the GT4 will hold it's value better (and may in fact appreciate). But from what everyone says (including equ), the GTS is a lot easier to live with on the street.

Unless you're planning to take it to the track, I'd get the GTS.

it's a nutty comparison because the cars are so close to each other.

I just peeked at the preowned value of GT4s. crazy.

i'm leaning toward keeping it for now.

i love it.

this deep dive into the 981 got me to thinking. so i'm pretty close to trying a well engineered midships car. but the prudent way to do this is to try either a preowned one (expensive and mostly vanilla) or a new one that will depreciate minimally.

Good stuff... Let us know how you feel about them after you test them.

Unfortunately, they (including the GT4's) all suffer from way too tall gearing, porsche adding 1" to the total tire diameter from the 987/997 generation but leaving gears the same. If you are spoiled by maximum shove, you may be disappointed by meeting your heroes in real life.

which is all mildly frustrating. because we are talking $110k for a 982.

when it's at this level of sale price, now i am obligated to consider 997TTs and circa 2011 GT3s. because this is just an absurd amount of money for a car whose critique has mainly been "underpowered" --

i'm now considering a quick flight to Phoenix for a 997TT or to Portland OR for a 997TT. It's really difficult for me to commit to a car like the GT4 without really understanding if it's going to appeal to the Neanderthal in me. i guess this is all predictable.

That's pretty frustrating, yeah, that dealers play those games even on high-end cars where you've got a demonstrated intent and ability to buy. Really irritating.

I guess the question is what you plan to do with the car? Are you going to use it for long-haul highway driving? Or just as a local toy?

Personally, I'd take the GT3 over the turbo (and the Cayman) all day, every day, but the GT3 is a bucket list car for me in a way the Turbo just isn't.

I like this one a lot.

And if you wanted something a bit more...special? How about a GT3 RS?

https://finder.porsche.com/us/en_US/911-GT3-RS-166864

Which, ok, it's a lot more money but it keeps popping up in my FB feed and I really, really want it.

Actually this one is cheaper and kind of a more interesting color combo:

If you decide a 718 GTS is what you're looking for, this one is beautiful, has good options and looks to be sold at list price:

I REALLY like Aventurine - to the point I'm looking at the potential of wrapping my 911 that color.
