A vehicle is more than just the engine - besides, you've convinced yourself you need 400hp, an arbitrary number really, while ignoring all the other factors that go into what makes an engine feel great: torque, where the power is delivered along the RPM band, smoothness, and how well matched the engine is to gearing and the weight of the vehicle.

You should take something like an MDX out for a spin - and if it's any consolation, Honda made its reputation on its engineering, particularly wrt engines.

Who gives a shit how much stuff he wants to take with him. Or how little you can get by with. The guy needs solutions here people!

With 400 HP you should be able to tow a nice little trailer full of gear.

Edit:
Does that Volvo use the same stupid 2.0 engine as the xc90? Because that would already be the solution if they'd put a real power-plant in the thing. I wonder if the hybrid version is any good...
