There is NO cybertruck, it's not much more than a design sketch in steel.

It's the Silicon Valley way... Demo a mock-up, get interest going, investors jump in... Only after, push your talent to reach for the promised specs. Tesla stock price allows it. It's not judged like every other automaker, mostly on profit margin. It's judged on being the future, which may or may not be true. They have sometimes delivered on the hype and sometimes not so much.

This is a fair criticism, though query whether the industry practice of designing concept cars that have only a tangential relationship to actual product plans is any better.

As for the charge that Tesla doesn’t live up to the hype, I really don’t think that’s right. The semi and the roadster are still a ways off, but the company is cranking out Model 3s at mass market volume from Fremont and appears to be ready to do the same from China after 10 months of construction; say what you want about the Model 3, but there aren’t many other 470+ hp family sedans that can hit 60 in 3 seconds — all for less than 60k.

To repeat myself, I wrote they sometimes live up to the hype and sometimes don't. If you are disagreeing with that statement, I'm going to call you a fanboi, though that might be a positive for Tesla as I regard your views highly.

Certainly S & 3 have lived up and then some. The X, who knows? Not much of a success, but at least it's delivered.

The semi, the roadster, years of promising autonomous driving... Not so much. I expect the cybertruck to join the latter list and not the former.

While it's being nearly universally mocked in the truck forums, it's getting surprisingly positive reactions from the Tesla and non-truck forums. It might not end cutting into the truck market, but instead inspire the next wave of crossovers and SUVs. That's a big market too.

When the charging infrastructure and battery technology support recharging the long-range model in a half hour, it'll be a viable option for long-distance towing. I couldn't care less how fast my truck gets to 60MPH, but 500 mile range (~ 250 mile range towing) would be interesting.
