Well.... It was just a matter of time....

After 30 years.... ~1,400,000 miles... And who knows how many close of calls..... of not hitting anything or being hit myself....

I finally today tasted the smell of airbags going off in your face.
And it was MY OWN DAMN FAULT......

Oh well.....

Yeah - I'm ok. Just super pissed at myself.
~3 miles from my house... Driving the F250, following another car (Toyota SUV) - You know that feeling when you have to sneeze but can't... your nose curling up in your face and you just close your eyes trying to get by that time... ???

Well...
On a two lane rural highway, the car I was following slowed down to make a left turn waiting for traffic.... at the same instant I was trying to either sneeze or not sneeze - and I didn't notice they stopped... or were nearly so....

Lets just say a body on frame SUV (like theirs) did pretty good when confronted with a full 3/4 ton PU impacting in the rear.... at about 30mph.

My airbag went off... I smelled like a gun range. YUCK!!!
I am ok.... They are ok...

Glad no one's hurt. An unsettling experience, I'm sure. So sorry!

Thanks -
Yep - I'm fine... The other people are fine....

Oh well... Insurance is involved... State Patrol report filed report...

I guess considering all the driving I have done - not too bad an incident

I do feel sorry for the other driver....

15 1/2 year old gal. Had just gotten her learners permit
Parents with her...
She was driving and turning into her own driveway..... just waiting for traffic to clear so she could make the turn...

Nuts.....

Glad everyone's OK.

I've never been involved in a major accident -- although I was the driver in two minor ones:
1) My brother bumped into me once at a stop light. He was almost to a stop anyway, so it was really just a gentle nudge. We were both in college at the time -- I was in our mom's car, and he was in the car we shared. No damage to either car.

2) I rear-ended someone under similar circumstances to this case (I looked down to change the radio station, and looked up to see the cars ahead of me braking hard, I jumped on the brakes a half second too late and bumped the car in front of me). No airbags deployed though, and there was no damage to the car in front of me (other than a dust imprint of the VW badge from the car I was driving). There was ~$500 or so in damage to the VW though -- had to replace a plastic grille and a hood hinge, plus a little paint. No injuries, nor any citation to me (I think the officer that came didn't want to bother with documenting everything -- especially since the only damage was to my car.)
