I think the Cayman is pretty awesome, it has the advantage of better visibility over the Boxster which makes switching lanes a lot easier on the mind. I know mine is just a base but I think it drives really awesome, it is such an agile easy to drive aggressive car especially in sport mode I think you can't go wrong.
I just drove it yesterday and was loving it. Don't get me wrong I love the Boxster too and am not saying one is better then the other, it is just slightly different due to the visibility factor. I would be happy with either. |

That surprises me that a cayman would have better visibility than a boxster

I found the Boxster pretty blind when switching lanes—even with the blind spot monitoring. My 2 droptop was so much better in that regard—even without Blind spot monitoring…2 had pretty great visibility for a convertible.

I love the unfiltered induction noise of mid-engine Porsches. I think everyone on this thread is in for a real treat. I still think the 3.4L DFI engine is great. More displacement can’t hurt.

Yeah, a boxster with the top up feels pretty cave -like. Visibility to the rear three quarter is awful

Agreed via my experience with the two Boxster loaners that I have had. The one that I had most recently, I had to leave the top up because it was simply to hot to enjoy it with the top down. I tried…

Well, I'm now on my 2nd 987 and yes, visibility is bad. But it is no worse than the NC Miata and I would argue better than it.

I’ll tell you this, the C8 is horrible, thank goodness for the big extended mirrors jutting out from the car and the blind side assist though i’m still scared to change lanes sometimes. The worst is backing out of a parking space at certain angles, I can’t see shit

The top is a consumable over the long term but it’s not that expensive and lasts pretty long. Mine lasted 12 years.
The elastic strap thing is annoying but there’s a literal $5 fix for it involving elastic Bed Bands that works surprisingly well. Not sure if the 982 is going to have those same issues; the top design is fairly different from the 986/987. |
