LOL E61
Just got another class action settlement notice related to the E61 I used to own, this one (Oliver v. BMW) having to do with the electric water pump and thermostat.
Apart from meaning that I have to dig up my records and see if I paid for the water pump failure myself, that marks at least the third class action settlement that car was covered by--one for the HPFP, one for the computers in the trunk, and this one. Who knows, maybe there were others too. |

You might check with the dealer or shop you used to see if they still have records.
Fortunately I was able to use this forum to determine that mine was covered under CPO when I had it done 7 years ago. |

My dad's 530XiT definitely had the trunk computers thing when WDC owned it. I'm going to go see if he had water pump / thermostat issues.

That trunk computer thing was just stupid cost-cutting in 2 different places that combined to cause a very expensive problem. They put a styrofoam insert without drainage in the former spare tire well (which did have drainage) and cheaped out on the way the roof gutters drained, causing the water to pool in the former spare tire well full of electronics.
Not that that was the first time they shot themselves in the foot with a howitzer. Nikasil engines grenading, anybody? |

As far as I remember, that tire well had no drainage. |

Zach, let me know if you want me to photocopy it for you/your dad. We definitely had the water in the trunk thing. Had the panorama roof cassette fix. I feel like we did the water pump, too, but can’t remember that for sure. It is all massively helped by parking in a garage. LOL. |

Perhaps we need a new section called "Logbook".

EDIT: actually I just talked to my dad and he said he never had problems with the water pump or thermostat, so I guess no need, but thanks! Last edited by zach; 11-24-2020 at 02:51 PM. |
