The 340 wasn't out in 2014, but I did test drive a manual 328 and auto 335 (the dealer had no manual 335s). Definitely noticed the phenomenon you describe in comparison to the S4.

The turbo lag wasn't bad on either, but definitely noticeable.

My A6 was like that, the moment you touch the pedal it instantly goes, loved that engine !!

EDIT should specify it's the same engine as the S4

Yesterday I turned around to glance at it and decided to take a pic. Eventually I will get the NIB Style 37s (18” M Parallels) mounted and balanced.
