...All good things

So, roughly a dozen years after I bought a Boxster that TD flagged for me in Manassas, I've passed it on to its next owner. I'll let FC give his impressions when he recovers from his trip today, but I am more than a little sad to see it go.

It was easily the best car I've owned, and for a serial car trader like me, the idea that I'd hold on to a single vehicle for 12 years is just nuts.

There were a lot of cars over the years that I considered swapping it for--a 997.1 GT3 (couldn't really afford it), a 987.2S (didn't like the grey color), more 911s than I can count, a few more recent 987.2s (they weren't as sharp as this one, with its new shocks). In the end, it never made sense to sell it...until it suddenly did.

Hopefully the new car is a worthy successor, and doesn't leave me pining in the way that the E90 and Mk. VII Golf did. Fingers crossed.

In the meantime, auf wiedersehen cobalt blue Boxster.

This board has been great at car matchmaking. I believe I found TD’s M3 convertible. And a few other cars for folks here (an E36 convertible for Josh in PA? A Cayman R for Rumatt?) And Zach’s dad bought our E61 wagon. Fun to watch (and participate, in from time to time.)

And the only sad part is, I have a hard time imagining that FC will keep the car for another 12 years…

Agreed. Now I wish someone here would get a hankering for a turnkey ‘03 E39 540, manual M Sport. Just saying…

12 years is a long time but that is a great car. I think the problem for serial car changers is the cars have gotten so good there is no major benefit to changing.

I would not be surprised if you keep the new Boxster just as long ….

Also I don’t think your car could have gone to a better home.

Btw didn’t FC buy your Mini too ?

12 years is a long time! Definitely a special car. My dad sold his Z4 last fall after 11 years so I know the feeling.

You’re getting a really cool replacement that should be another car worth keeping for 10+. And if you don’t like it, let me know!!

Congrats to both JST and FC...

Looking back on it, I really should have kept my Boxster longer. I guess if that was my last ICE car, at least I had a great one!

Great thought here —you reach a point where you find the sweet spot and the need to get a new vehicle diminishes.
