2002 tii

Saw one yesterday on the road.

Thought I heard somewhere the 2002 tii were some what of a rare / special car?

I believe this was a high performance version of the 2002 and imported in limited numbers.

They are rare in good condition. Otherwise pretty easy to find. I believe the difference was the injected motor.

I sort of understand the interest from watching them drive by, but by today's standards these really are nothing cars. I guess I just don't have a decent enough love of the brand to be a real fanboi. A 50's T-bird is much more interesting to me.

Rare? Sort of.....
They built 400,000 (+/-) 1600/1800/1602/1802/2002's total with only 44,478 being 2002tii's from 1972 to 1974.
They are fuel injected (mechanical) and have larger brakes.

Here's the production breakdown....
LHD tii ------------27,572
USA tii ------------ 7,447
2000 tii Touring --- 5,058
RHD tii ----------- 3,678
2002 tii Touring ---- 723
Total ----------- 44,478

Body and other running gear - they are the same... Meaning very good.
One variation --- The Touring model is a hatchback version (different that the coupe - and a PITA to get parts for - but kind of slick if you want to be unique....)

For a point of reference.... My 2002 (carb) is probably a $12,000 car these days.
If my car was a tii - Probablly ~$!6,000 or so.... maybe higher. There have been recent very nice examples selling for north of $20k.

The former owner of my M3 also had a completely restored 2002tii that he was selling at the time. Someone from FL bought it and later sold it to a gentleman here in Knoxville. Weird that both the cars ended up here. Anyways... he currently has it for sale. $22,900 (corrected).

The 2002 Turbo is the rarest of all 2002s.

I see tii's quite often around here.

Wow, I only paid about 3600 for mine (2002tii) but that was way back in 1977. I wonder what that equates in today's dollars?
