I can see the argument for getting a GT4 over the Corvette, particularly if you having a stick is important.

I can’t see the argument for a Supra. The idea of a BMW in a Toyota wrapper with a automatic does less than nothing for me. It’s existence diminishes the overall net amount of Good in the car world.

Those who live in vast lands may not care about an extra five inches here and ten inches there. For some of us with small garages on tiny streets, these numbers are absolutely critical. Any kind of super car-ish proportion is useless to my current life. Good thing I don't have the GT4 (never regretted that sale) and really, other than vintage, no Ferrari would fit either.

I have near-zero interest in the Supra. I have negative interest in the C8 everyone is drooling over. They are both 2-pedal many gear wonders which I'm sure drive fine. Never liked PDK either. Sure, I'd take them on a track day, but I don't want them on the road.

Kind of summarizes my feelings as well. The fact that it makes a lot of power is interesting but not sufficient. I mostly just can't get over the looks, I think it's heinously ugly. There really isn't a good line to be found on it. The other thing is the price. Yeah, a Z51 Corvette is going to be closer to $70k than the $60k base car, and I suspect the Z51 buys you a lot of performance and feel. And $70k is a lot more than the $50k Supra. But, I shop the used market and I bet used versions of the two cars will be pretty close in price after they've been around a few years.

I think I can live with and enjoy a DCT. I don't think I could live with a slushbox.

Eh. A modern slushbox, well programmed, behaves about the same as DCT.

Not really. The torque converter is always present, and the response to shift requests is not even remotely the same.

I'm with Nick on this one. I didn't see enough daylight separating a well-tuned ZF 8-speed and the 7-speed PDK (on the Macan turbo no less). Again, it's less about how fast they respond to paddle inputs. I'm not on the track both are mostly shifting themselves (and rather well at that). Once that happens and the third pedal is gone, I'm removed from the experience.

I get that the shifts are faster, but a well programmed ZF8 shifts fast, and locks up most of the time.

And modern DCTs seem to be programmed to feel as much like an automatic as possible, including creeping and all the annoying automatic behaviors. So much so that I just put them in “D.” I’ll agree that in flappy paddle mode, they feel different, but if the flappy paddle mode isn’t satisfying enough to use, there isn’t much daylight between them in Drive.

So I drove the macanurbo in manual/paddling mode quite a bit. In a city environment, I was not as good as either the D or the DS programs. My goal in the city would be to be smooth and efficient. PDK on its own probably got to 5th gear by the time I'd get to 3rd. I shifted not as fast as the system... I could see that for a sports car that's going on the track, this might not apply. That said, I've driven both 997's and 991's around Monticello in sport plus mode. Just a few laps, never thought about the gearbox at the easy level that I was doing (in lead/follow mode).
