Besides, just think what the Jeep's solid axles and tires already weigh.

Let's see:

A svelt 72 lb. per tire/wheel combo* x 2 per axle
+
What, maybe 200 lb. for solid steel axle tubes, cast iron diff housing, cast iron knukcles, ring and pinion gears, diff carrier, bearings, brake rotors, calipers, steel axleshafts, several quarts of gear oil, n'stuff.
=
~350 lb. of unsprung weight per axle



Wonder why the Jeeps ride a bit crude.




* Note: I'm running light aluminum alloy factory rims with a relatively light weight "small" 32" tire. There are a lot of guys running 33 - 35" tires can can get that tire/wheel combo up to 150 lb. per tire.

Certainly makes it interesting when changing a tire. . . sepcially getting one of those big suckers off the rear tire carrier.
