The R32 is just not a good value proposition, IMO. If you're looking for power, AWD, and versatility, I would take the WRX wagon any day of the week. If you're worried about image, you're more of a typical BMW driver than you care to admit. And anyway, Nick's dad has one, for pete's sake. If you really, really can't stand the thought of owning a rice-like Subaru, then wait for the Saab 9-2X. You'll pay more for purely non-performance reasons, but you'll still pay less than you would for an R32, you'll get more utility out of it, and it will be more fun to drive.
If I were in the $25k - $30k pricing bracket with your constraints, the WRX wagon would be firmly at the top of my list. On top of what I've already said, you could get one for closer to $23k nicely optioned. |

If I buy something, I want new (no repair hassles for a while) and AWD. |

What does the R32 have on the M3?
It is AWD, but I doubt that you want to use crappy all seasons all year anyway...

Just pony up the dough and get an E39 M5.

And, while it's not a critical concern, image does play into things. I have said I drive a BMW in spite of it's image and it's true. I just can't look past the ricer stereotype associated with the WRX and Evo. I would never buy a car because of it's image but, in some cases, I will avoid a car for that reason. Hey, it is what it is. |
