The seat rails of the e46 Are 18" apart and the bolt holes to hold the to the floor are 14" part from top to bottom. Now the rails on the e90 are 16.5 " apart/wide but 14" long from top to bottom. And is more kicked over the the right side. So a pice of 1/8 steel plate 16" long and 4" wide with 4 holes drilled 14" lengthwise and 1.5" apart. Then this was bolted to the frame rails. Then dropped the seat on the floor and bolted down and fits like a glove.
E90 seats in e46 it can be done!

I’ll check on the SE46 group to see what’s out there.

Cool, thanks.

Ideally I'd find a heated version so all that needs to be done is the wiring.

kind of on topic. Anybody know if e46 coupe (ans z4) seats fit OK in a e46 sedan / wagon?

The fronts do, assuming you don't mind the tilt levers.

Edit: IIRC, actually, the Z4 seats would be tilt lever free since they have no back seat.

The Boxster doesn't have back seats but the seats tilt forward with mechanical levers. I guess so you can put something behind the seats? Are you sure the Z4 seats don't? It's been years since I've driven a Z4.

I think I was looking at MZ4 seats and that was an issue with them. But it's been a while and I don't care enough to go look.
