Talking Jeep Build for Easter Jeep Safari

Wow, a pretty cool rig with some substantial changes from stock. Thought some might be interested in the fabrication and substantial alteration that happens to the Jeeps. It didn't used to be like this but the Jeep "community" has gotten more skilled and sophisticated in terms of engineering and fabrication capability.

This "used to be" an LJ (TJ Unlimited, the stretched version).

Replaced the stock axles and made their own out of various components

TJ Unlimited build

  • 40" tires
  • custom roll cage
  • custom high-strength axles
  • custom hood / front fenders

Finished rig.

Measuring to custom cut the axle housing

Custom steering knuckles

Tacking in the roll cage for fitment.

Rough part of town when they steal your axles, not just your wheels.

I've always wished I had the skill and knowledge to do that kind of stuff....but I'd build a bike instead.

I'm working on my fabrications skills. Its fun to work with steel and stuff. Lots of tricks to improve accuracy and such. Its one of the reasons the Jeepforum.com's fabrication forum has become one of my regular haunts.

Granted, a professional company that makes aftermarket Jeep parts built this so I expect a higher level of design and fabricating skill going into this as well as perhaps a higher budget.

Still, it's cool seeing it come together.
