On the subject of longest-held cars: my Honda Accord hatchback takes the prize at 9 years. The E71 X5 was 7 years. The 2003 325xIT was passed around the family for 8 or 9 years. Re FC’s Land Rover. That seems like a car you could keep going for 20 years... |

Frankly, that's the plan. It's in beautiful shape and I don't put a lot of miles on it. Also, I've mentioned it before and it is by far the roomiest car one can have for its relatively short length, which I absolutely need given the depth of my attached garage. I hope it lasts a long time. It also has a lot of character (unlike the new ones), so I think it will look cool many years from now.

I think the roadsters work well for long-term ownership if they are 2nd/3rd cars. Tougher as a primary car. My parents have had their Z4 for 9 years now and probably do 1-2k miles per summer. I can see them keeping it for a while. At some point I might encourage them to consolidate to 2 cars once they fully retire, but it’s basically fully depreciated so no rush. Plus might be worth taking it over myself at that point if it’s cheap enough (Z4 3.0si 6MT)

Ive had small two seaters as my primary car before. 91 CRX Si and 94 MR2 Turbo.
The thought does not worry me getting the 981. Although I don't have kids or a dog. I think I can count the times I have had someone in the back seat in the M5 over the 11 years I have had it.

You can get matching "Tennis Ball Yellow" wheels from Team Dynamics. They also offer them with the real fuzz, which must be for cars that get trailered to shows - I imagine they rapidly fill up with brake dust. A Google image search for tennis ball yellow car wheels reveals a disturbing number of manufacturers willing to make them.
