I get nervous with the doing the hard wire that I will do something wrong and short out my car ... I've never done anything like that before though today after trying out the detector I found the wire was really annoying, my car has the cigarette lighter under the center armrest so it is really inconveniently placed.

Meanwhile I gave it to my friend who is taking a long trip tonight and I asked him to let me know how it works.

He is going to be on the taconic pkwy as part of his trip so I am looking forward to seeing what he tells me.

I have never hardwired my V1. I order extra coil cables every few years. I have too many cars that change too frequently and too little experience/ability/confidence with hacking in.

I hate cables dangling around so I love the hardwire. But now that I use waze everywhere I go I now have a phone charger cable dangling from the dash 100% of the time anyway so I'm not sure I'm really ahead in this game.

Hardwire a mount/charger.

AF, isn't there any Sight and Sound aftermarket places that can do the install for you? I bet they could set up multi vehicles for the same detector

Thanks for the tip but I really don't think I'll be using it where it's even worth it ... most of my driving is local .... it is pretty rare if I go on a drive more then 20 minutes and I know the police hangout spots really well plus I'm not really a fast driver. I'd say I'm a little more aggressive then most but I don't drive like a maniac.

The only reason I got it was for my son for the trips he will be taking back and forth to school.

Quick update ... I lent it to a friend a few weeks ago who took a road trip from Long Island to the Berkshires ... part of that ride includes the Taconic parkway where there are usually police along the way.

Bottom line ... Waze gave a little more or the same warning as the Escort, the Escort had false alarms when passing big stores like Supermarkets, etc. The escort did not pick up anything Waze didn't.

Basically as long as you are careful when on a road trip without other cars (less Waze drivers/warnings) and follow some basic smart driving rules the radar detector really isn't necessary for the type of trips we take.

For the cost of $650.00 getting a ticket would probably be less money.

Also I really didn't like the size and the whole cord issue really is annoying, yes I know you could hard wire it but I take very few road trips and it's not worth it for the few times it would be used.

I ended up returning it.

On a busy highways waze is pretty great. It's less traveled country roads where waze is far less reliable and the radar detector really pays off.

I've not had good luck w/ Waze. Most often a Cop will be marked and I'll find him a 1/4 mile down the road with someone pulled over, or a cop won't be marked and I'll find him hiding nearly blind. Luckily my 9500 will have given me 3/4 of a mile warning to this guy. In the last month alone I can think of two occasions, where I've gotten a radar warning, slowed down, got passed by someone who then gets pulled over to the cop that radar detector was beeping about. Both were PA Turnpike in high speed, somewhat rural areas.

AF, I was hoping to hear you gave the Maxx enough time to tune out falsies, etc. I'm bummed that you returned it so quickly.
