I mostly agree. Still not sure about the ghost grill and the rear doesn't flow as well as the model s but overall it commits fewer styling sins than the 3 series and its ilk. I agree that it looks like a Mazda sedan if Mazda happened to make rwd sedans. Overall I'd probably buy one although I will have to acclimate to the interior if the pro type is at all representative. Elon tweeted over the weekend that this is not the final steering gear. Which is a weird choice of words.

Pig snout or not, the car seems fine, though as with Matt and a few others here, I doubt my urban environment will be amenable to plugging/charging. If that changes, I could see making one out of two or three cars electric... The model 3 could even be in my future, though much of the infrastructure around here will have to change.
There is one big thing in this hoopla that is bothering me. If there are so many people willing to put deposits down, why are my tax dollars going to support or even create such a mania? Dumb. |

I suspect that tax incentive is what is largely drawing the crowd. There are going to be a lot of cancellations once it expires. |

http://nypost.com/2016/03/17/tesla-s...-gas-stations/ As for the tax program--the whole point of the credits was to encourage the adoption of EVs and speed the creation of a market for those cars. Now that's happened. The program has been a huge success. Why does that bother you? Seems like we should be celebrating it. |

I live near but not in Manhattan, and never buy gas there, so no effect to me. I still am not enthused by having to charge up every 3 hrs of highway driving. I generally don't drive during the week, when I drive on the weekends, I typically go further.
If the deal is so good that hundreds of thousands sign up and the stock price has gone to the stratosphere, I see a mania being inflated with federal incentives. I also take issue with the Fed's ZIRP (zero interest rate policy) causing the real estate, stock (less of one) and even old porsche bubbles. That is far less direct than this. Outright funneling to EV stockholders and drivers... The US tax system is broken from beginning to end. |

It's worth exploring whether your parking situations (garage owners, whatever) either at home or work would be willing to put in charging infrastructure. I found that my office was surprisingly accommodating on that point.
Putting in charging in an exterior space is obviously more difficult, though it is not necessarily impossible. Last edited by JST; 04-04-2016 at 03:48 PM. |
