Hey Stuka quick question.

Changing from CD to DVD nav in the E39?

Does it require more the swaping the unit in the trunk? How hard was it in your MIL's 740?

Thanks in advance. There may be a purchase pending =X.

Also how much dollars and how hard to retrofit blue tooth?

Taking it out of the 740 was the most gigantic pain in the ass. Without the BMW special tool, you have to cut four pieces of wires from a hanger, and try to press them just the right way to release the existing drive from the latch.

bimmernav link that Mr. Atom dude gave me has all the pricing. I got the NAV from them. Pretty cool, already set to UK mode, so no stupid accept button to press.
So since the 02 E39 already has the wise screen you just need to switch the unit in the trunk? No rewiring?

Whats the URL to the site you bought yours at if you dont mind.

Thanks

Expensive, but it worked pretty well.
Just checked out the related install video's. Very cool.

The bluetooth is pretty straight forward as well. Thanks again stuka.

Looks like about $1600 for both. Not TO bad.

If you don't mind....

I'll stick around here and see how this works out for you.
My 01 E38 has the widescreen nav (CD) installed as well. I am considering upgrading it to DVD in addition to adding Bluetooth as you are talking of.

The $$ for me are not there right now, but possibly later this summer.

I'd love to hear how things work out.

Certainly but there has to be a car to do it on first. Like I said stay tuned. =)

I was just curious how much it was to upgrade these items.

Another question if you guys dont mind.

I am searching online for various trims pieces for this car I am insterested in and Bav Auto does not seem to have the items I need. I know they probably dont list everything they have online.

I also found that Pacific BMW stop there online sales.

Does anyone know of another good online BMW parts site? Thanks

As for Bluetooth retrofits -- I put BT into my '03 E39...

Keep in mind that '03 was the fist year where BT was offered as a dealer-installed option. You can find places that can retrofit the pre-'03 cars, but the cost will be more (Bimmernav has the info and parts).

Since my car was BT-ready, I only needed to purchase the BT module and get the install kit for the 5er. I ended up buying the BT module off of eBay -- found one for a decent price that was "new enough" for my tastes (the early ones are very buggy -- so you want a late of a hardware update as possible). I bought the install kit from my local dealer. Total cost was ~$400 (vs ~$550 from Bimmernav).

The only thing I do recommend is to buy the newest microphone -- the one included in the 5er kit is the original one, which has problems. I'm cheap, and haven't spent the extra ~$75 -- and I get complaints that people can't hear me very well. I mostly use the BT kit to join conf calls on the way to work, so I just put up with it, or switch the phone off BT for a minute or two when I need to talk.

All good to know. Thanks for the info. The install video on the BimmerNav site also mentions the fact you should get the upgraded Mike.

I have always had good luck with Circle BMW, they do need your BMWCCA number though.
Cool thanks for the tip. I'll check them out. I used Pacific a lot in the past. Wonder why they stopped internet sales.
