Actually, I know the perfect car for FC here. I mean, it's so obvious.

I've always hated this about the A3. It would be so cool with AWD and a 6 spd.

What makes me think that's not really her car? I seem to recall she does not like to commute into the city in big vehicles--hence the Mini.

Wow, lot's of comments...

Anyway, the LR4 is my DD car as I drop off/pick the kids. The mini is her DD car (usually train station, occasionally to the city). The LR4 is also the family car and primary car for use on weekends for errands/shopping/transporting dog/etc, as well as the car to use during terrible weather.

The MCS is just a back up when a second car is needed and I can't use the 997.

The BMW is was too expensive to be used as the Mini is used. The Jeep was very old and my wife didn't trust it or want it anymore. Plus it was awful on fuel economy.

Do the larger Minis have room for 5 people?

I think she would prefer a car that could carry a fifth person in a pinch or the four of us and some semblance of luggage or leftover room for some shopping.
So why would the Land Rover not be used in those circumstances?

She doesn't want something nice for her daily driving. She doesn't want something 10+ years old that is beat to hell. Basically, the MCS is perfect: worth $10-12k (I assume), looks nice, is fun, etc.

An A3 would be nice, but probably too much $$, no?

So your wife wants something with four doors, bigger than a Mini but not too big, room for five people or four and some shopping cargo. Better fuel economy than a Jeep. A nice car, but one that's depreciated enough that you don't care about a few dings at the train station. Has some personality and a manual transmission. Has to be able to get through inclement weather.

This is a no-brainer. The answer is a 330i ZHP with a set of winter tires.
