Not at all. You sell me hardware with certain features disabled without a software key. Until yesterday, the DMCA said I can't pick the lock. Today, I can. I don't need any additional software from you.

If you don't want me to use your hardware, don't sell me your hardware.

A less extreme case is selling server software with a license based on how many CPUs you're running. Want more processing power? Pay us money and we'll enable you to spawn up more copies in parallel. This happens all the time.
Completely different scenario and not covered in the right to repair ruling.

I think Tesla will be fine in this regard... but I'm usually wrong any time I try to predict anything, so...
I'm just waiting for JST (who, unlike me, will probably read the full thing) to tell me that conclusions about it are wrong. So, there!

Model 3 D = AWD Model 3
Model 3 Performance, aka P3D = AWD Model 3 with more power (450 hp)
Model 3 Performance with Performance Upgrade Package, aka P3D+ = P3D with bigger wheels, small suspension changes, and bigger brakes

That's all of them.

I don't think he had any interest in understanding. He was just mocking / complaining.

Clyde you missed P3D+, P3D- and that PUP is sometimes used for both "performance upgrade package" and "premium upgrade package".

I do have an interest, but don't want to have to join a Tesla fanboi board, follow the head guy's twitter, and waste extra time on their website keeping track of it...especially when it changes daily because it's fucking stupid.

So what's this one?

Black 2018 Tesla 3-P75D+

It's registered in my autocross tomorrow.

Did JV cut apart a Model 3 and a Model S and create a mix of the two?

Unrelated [and you'll probably want to tune out for this part clyde...]
I drove the car from manhattan to the lake house tonight while dark and rainy. Visibility sucked. I used autopilot as much as I could out of morbid curiosity. It was really impressive. I just sat back, kept my hands on the wheel, and watched for problems. It was shockingly relaxing and didn't feel unsafe because I had plenty of time to react if it did something stupid.

I had to intervene 3 times in a 75 minute drive. (merging cars, construction zones, etc)

Overall I'm really happy with the car. It's relaxing and comfortable on the highway, yet still a blast on back roads. A rare combo.

Oh, and I can't believe Elon is giving money back. I mean, I'll take it. But what an idiotic situation he created. He needs to stay off twitter.

That would more commonly be referred to as a P3D+ -- same thing JST and rumatt have (but black…)

Tesla doesn't list the battery size on the 3, unlike the S, so there has been a bit of a hubbub about how to refer to them. Some people insist on using the same shorthand that is used with the S, and the Long Range battery in the 3 is a approx 75kWh...

Hm, this is kind of annoying. OTOH, I guess if id waited I might not have gotten the full tax credit, and probably would have gotten less for the Model S trade.

Sounds like they’ll reimburse you if you agree to give up free supercharging

Even though economically it’s silly, i think I’d rather keep the supercharging.

That is exactly what I was thinking ... I don't get how people like to use twitter, it almost always gets you in trouble ... the government is investigating this guy based on his twitter about taking the company public ... you would think he would never go near twitter again after this

EDIT: just saw this. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/10/28/...fine-worth-it/
