In light of the tax credit clarification, the Volt doesn't sound as rational. My earlier cost analysis made the ST the rational choice (money only) for the shorter drive commute and had them at near even if I drive in. I think the Volt numbers are a little better than that (the $2k MD tax credit applies to the lessee and there are better lease terms available than the regular national GM offer I used for the basis) and the ST numbers may be a little worse as my depreciation estimate may be a little low.

Even with a full drive in (which I'm gonna do), the Focus may be the better choice. It will be a little more expensive, but it will be more practical or flexible in some respects with a fifth seat, hatchback cargo room and such.
