Regarding values, this is why I took so long to buy a new pickup. If you ever want to drive yourself crazy, go look at used diesel pickup trucks and compare to real, out the door pricing on the same truck new. I can't reasonably pay $65k for a new 3/4 ton diesel pickup but it's more laughable when someone is asking $45k for a five year old version of the same truck with 100k+ miles on it.

I've always wondered why this is?

I was going to say that he shouldn't look at buying a truck if the wrangler scares him.

I might be changing trucks soon and was looking at used listings for valuation and it's kind of silly.

Toyota trucks/4runners and Subaru's have the same issue. But I know some people who would buy used to save $500 or so over new

i like the 4 door Jeep.

is it great on the highway? no. like never.

but it's great around town. as you've written, it has amazing resale value and to be honest, I don't worry about it as one would worry about any LandRover product. if something happens, there's always a Jeep dealer nearby and the reality is: nothing really bad ever happens as it uses the old 5spd automatic and not the prone-to-fail 8 or 10 speed slushboxes.

Noticed jeep popularity has increased seems like significantly in San Diego. Example for the beach this morning

any guess on cost, I was thinking $50k with all the mods?

That's easily a 50k+ Wrangler. Probably closer to 60k than 50k.

I gotta admit they are really cool looking plus adding the convertible factor ... it looks like a fun car to own.
