Seriously, why bother buying a used Wrangler?

Prices are outrageous.

I used to think back 8 years ago that there was simply a huge demand on 4-doors since they had just come out and that other the years it would taper off. Nope.

I did a quick search and found a JK 4-door from MY2012 (so going on 6 years old) with 60k miles, no warranty, not evident or mentioned aftermarket options to bump up the value, for $32k.

A new one costs mid to upper 30's. I don't get it.

That is weird ... they drive horribly ... my friend who lives a few doors down from me has one ... it has the big wheels and some special crap done to it and not only is it loud on the road because of the big wheels/tires but it is slow as shit, I think he paid in the $60k range for his .. it does look cool but thats about it

We had a rental Wrangler on our honeymoon in St. John ten years ago. It was fun on an island where it was 80F all week and the speed limit is 20MPH. Beyond that, I don't really get the appeal.

We were just in St. John, and they were crawling all over the island.

I don't get it. I have a Jeep dealership on the corner of an intersection on the way home from work and I constantly see new Wranglers with all sorts of modded crap. Pick-up conversions, 100% Rhino-coating, crazy off-roading packages, etc. and these don't last two weeks before they are gone. I don't wanna know what they must ask for these but surely they are $50K+ as they are always Rubicons.

My wife seems to really want one still (sometime down the road after eGolf lease is up). I happen to love them purely are family convertibles. She wants something she doesn't have to care about to drive to the train. I'd love to get a reasonable one for $12k, but that doesn't exist. Every time I look at Wranglers I wind up thinking it's stupid and I should just get a new one. But new ones are also not cheap. This is why after 10 years I still don't have one.

A 14 yo car for 12k? Low miles, though. I'll give it that.

Anyway, it has 2 doors. I was looking for a 4-door JK. That is something I need to talk to her when the time comes. We are, after all, only a family of 4.

It's basically the same design as a new one.

You're talking about a fun "runabout", a Wrangler is not an FC family trip car, that I can guarantee. You can fit four in one of those just fine for a run to the store, or to school.

Tangential, but I'll never understand the fascination people have with car doors.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I think an old 2-door Wrangler would be fine for its mission. It would be nice to bring the dog along - and that could get ugly with a 2-door. That, and I still have a beef with paying that much money for a 15 yo car.

Anyway, the idea is nothing serious, just ranting about the crazy values.
