That car looks ... not particularly well cared-for.

It’s a little rough around the edges and automatic. Edit: OK, listing says automatic, pictures say manual. Also lux package is a huge negagive.

It is many things, but if the pictures are accurate, it's not an automatic.

Yeah, that's what I get for going off the text of the listing. Usually they get it wrong the other way.

Most here including me have had an E36 M3. While a great car and a wonderful memory I don't think I could do it again day to day if its your only car.

I almost bought an E36 convertible in Estoril, but I thought it handled like crap (I was driving a 2002 E46 with sport at the time).

Asking price was $14k and it had about 30k miles on it. I think it was a 97 or 98, too.

Yes, I should probably let my E36 memories be memories at this point. But driving Nick's car with the Euro engine reminded me how good they can be. I will say that I found the slow steering completely comical ... it's crazy how bad that is on E36s.

The E36 M3 I bought in 2002 was the first "nice" car I'd ever owned. It was so much better than anything I'd ever driven up to that point that it just blew me away. The curse of owning a string of really amazing cars is that nothing really feels special anymore. That's kind of why I have been looking at going two vastly different directions: Cheap and pleasant (GTI) or completely new experience (Tesla).
