Have you done rod bearings on yours? That missing bolt has already done, like, 1/512th of the procedure for you, so...

Hope that the new gasket solves the leak. It's pretty common for that piece to warp.

Options also include over torquing it to the block, but that's highly risky with aluminum. I'd almost recommend preemptive helicoils.

BavAuto offers a Viton version of that oil filter housing gasket, with the thought that it will extend the gasket's service life. Doesn't seem to have caught on, I don't really see much mention of it anywhere.

Edit: And now, from what I can gather, that part is NLA because the manufacturer wasn't willing to continue making it at relatively low volumes (still hundreds at a time). It was available roughly Aug 2016 - early May 2017. Never mind, I guess.

Nope. I've decided ignorance is bliss on all things m3 related. If you stay away from forums it's a much happier ownership experience.

I've heard that, but none of the 3 oil filter housings I've done have had any warp to them, and none of them have leaked after the fix (granted Matt's isn't back on yet, but the flange is flat).

Cool.

I guess it helps that you have the ability to actually check for flatness.

Hey, so do you want the subframe bushing tool back? I tossed the shipping label with your address.

Eventually. You can throw it on the shelf with the VANOS tools for now.

Are we ever doing a carmudgeons meet up?
