One of the reasons this is funny is because when I place my order for the E46 my original color was Orient blue. But then on the last day I had to change my order I one in the bright sunlight and it looked like a deep purple to me. (kind of like the Tesla blue). I switched to steel blue, then later figured out it was basically lavender.

Zach, the red is really nice and I thought about it. But I'm not sure I'm a red kind of guy, and $2,000? Give me a break. I refuse out of principle

BTW the sales guy said switching colors won't change my delivery time at all.

I had a steel blue E46... never thought it looked lavender.

As for delivery, still don’t have a confirmed date, but the car is supposed to arrive on Sat. Tesla did get back to me and won’t match the CarMax offer...

That's good on delivery.

I don't have any further info beyond "Oct to Dec." Salesguy said not to expect anything until delivery approaches, though I am cautiously optimistic given that I'm basically asking them to build me the same car they've been building for launch/test drives.

There was a 5 series car color that was totally lavender. I’ll have to find it. Might have been “Amethyst.”

Close. It was “Amethyst Gray.” https://5series.net/information/opti...amethyst_gray/

Matt Farah's review of the RWD model 3

Conclusion: I think this is a really nice car and I'm really going to miss it. I find it to be -- not as a canyon carver, not as a race car, I have no desire to take one to the track -- but going to the office, getting groceries, and running around the city, the Tesla Model 3 is a lovely place to spend your time.

That color actually fits the E60 perfectly.

The 981S rides just fine on razor thin /35 sidewalls and 20" wheels, not sure how much of it is the 3050lb weight vs. suspension tuning.

The 981 and Teslas also have larger diameter wheels than older cars like the e46 or 987. I don't really know how much this helps but in theory this decreases the attack angle of bumps and smooths things out a bit.

I don’t even remember all the names these days but BMW had a range of nasty colors on the E60 - amethyst, some light green/beige. Every once in a while one would show up in those colors with the auburn interior. Yowza!
