It bumped from $7500 to $30k real quick, then sat there.

Not before it moves under its own power again.

WTF? Have we reached peak stupidity? That is more than my loaded, gorgeous, better in every way Boxster S with 8k miles (when purchased, at 12k now). You can get a nearly new GTS for that dough. |

Peak stupidity? Maybe. I tend to think that for a long time the air-cooled 911s were waaaay undervalued as a driveable, fun classic (FUCK I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE). Now they clearly aren't, anymore. The 914s, particularly the 914/6s, make some sense as the next step in that evolution. Even 928s are starting to get some love. But peak stupidity will be when an Audi-engined 924 trades for this kind of money. But as someone once astutely observed, if you want to find out what's going to be the next classic, identify 40 and 50 year olds, subtract 20-30 years, and look at what was popular but unattainable among teenage boys then. Eventually all of the people that fondly remember air-cooled 911s from high school will die and the market will crash. Too bad that by that point we will be dead. |

Not that it matters for this argument, but technically they are not making GTS's any more either. Or any boxster with a flat-6 N/A engine. |

And I don't disagree with there being a bubble now on 911s. I do think they were undervalued for a long time--mid-year 911s were 15-20 grand for nearly 20 years. But the pendulum has swung too far the other way. Then again I think we're overdo for a correction in the collector car market generally. |
