The steering wheel is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. The "Plaid +" model shows 520+ miles of range, though, which is interesting.

It's probably magical 99% of the time.

I mean, it's hilariously awful that they're doing this, and I look forward to reading about the accidents that this causes. But the accessibility angle is one that puzzles me.

I was trying to figure out why the American Dental Association would care.

You can drive if you're vision impaired as long as your vision meets the state required minimum competency. If basic and required controls require capacitive touch control operation by a specific hand (center stack, console, side of the wheel, etc) how does someone without use of that hand operate the car? Think stroke survivor, amputee with non-capacitive prosthetic, etc. What if someone kind of has use of that hand, but not an ability to locate taps/slides with the accuracy and precision needed for operation? My mother is a stroke survivor without use of her right arm who drove traditional cars without issue for about 30 years following the stroke with cheap and simple adaptive equipment (left foot throttle pedal and, sometimes, a spinner knob on the wheel). Soon after high school, I had a roommate that was born with weird muscle and bone issues that left his right hand bent nearly 180 degrees back on his forearm and his left hand in a similar, but not as severe state. These did not impede his ability to drive a traditional vehicle without extra equipment. I have not been following Tesla's efforts to support the disabled community, so maybe they're way ahead on this and they have it all covered. If they make adaptive equipment, then, cool. If they open the systems up to third parties to create/install third party adaptive equipment, then, cool. If they say, "too bad," then, as the thread says, "Fuck Tesla." If they are, as you are suggesting, fucking over the abled as much as the disabled by preventing all drivers from operating controls, then it's not so discriminatory as much as "Fuck Tesla."
