Right! The $100k 718s are the loss leaders for the GT3s.

The GT3 is much closer to the definition of a loss leader that exists to sell the Cayenne and Macan cash cows.

Additional dealer mark ups go in the dealers' pockets, not the manufacturers'.

For Porsche or the dealers? Seems like the dealers are the ones making the big profits on GT3s now with their ADMs

Right, I was saying they are subsidizing the dealers so that they don't feel the need to charge huge markups on the 718s.

Yup. That goes for the GT cars as well btw...Porsche doesn't intentionally limit supply but so far the demand has outsripped their ability to produce more. Even pre-COVID that was the case when you think back to cars like the GT3 toruing.

On a related note, it seems pretty obvious that there's a gap in the 911 lineup for the equivalent of the 718 GTS cars; a naturally aspirated engine paired with roadcar suspension tuning. I suspect that a high percentage of GT3 buyers would actually prefer that to the 992 GT3s racecar aspirations...especially now that the "touring" version is really just a GT3 without a wing. Add to that Porsche's intentions to keep the 911 as an ICE vehicle: IF they are going to make the equivalent of a Rolex mechanical watch...why not go all the way

I think you're absolutely right that there's a gap in the 911 lineup. I think they'd cannibalize a bunch of GT3 Touring orders if they offered the 4.0 in the 911 GTS.

911s, as a group, are too expensive and too capable as a group for me to have much interest in them.

EV transitions notwithstanding, my Porsche-will-never-build-it dream car is a slightly better performing Miata with a noticeable, but not excessive, amount of additional power at a price point $10-$15k above the Miata's with Porsche presence and feel that makes it worth the additional money.

Until then, I'll enjoy my Camaro.

Maybe...although if they found room for both a 718 GTS and GT4 (with the same engine no less) it seems like the same appraoch would work with the 911 where there is even more room to play with price wise.

I backed off Pcars all together when 1. I realized even used they are ridiculous money. 2. I am single and this is my only car. I finally realized a two seater (I only ever wanted a boxster) was not a car for me in real life.

It is fun watching you guys go on and on about them though!! =)
